It could be the difference between life and death. "Long exposure to sun can increase the rate of skin cancer about fourfold," says Dr. Marc Siegel, NYU Medical Center. More than one million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, you should apply sunscreen every day if you plan on being in the sun more than 20 minutes. In this day and age, bald is beautiful. But is it also a health risk? New research presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research shows men who started to bald in the back of their heads before age 30 are at a higher risk of developing prostate cancer. More than 14 percent of those with prostate cancer reported having what’s called vertex baldness by age 30 compared to just over 5 percent of those who did not have cancer.
