Pneumonia today is still the sixth largest killer
in the United States. Pneumonia is the general inflammation of the lungs. This results in mucus and liquids blocking the air passages within the lungs.

Most cases of pneumonia are caused by bacterial and viral infections. And the disease can be either bronchial, which affects patches of the lungs or lobular, which affects whole sections or pieces of lungs. Symptoms include violent headaches, chills, fever and painful and labored breathing. The lungs literally fill up with liquid and the level of oxygen with the bloodstream falls. Lips and nails turn blue and the body's temperature can soar to 105 degrees. Most cases are treated with drugs, either anti-bacterial or the newer anti-viral types administered through a breather.
