Dr. Valentin Fuster considers the question of how long can human being live. He begins by describing how the life expectancy of men and women has been extended two or three years per decade since he attended medical school. However, this improvement in life expectancy has come from improved treatments not through promoting good health.

Dr. Fuster conjectures that as we overcome infectious diseases and we learn to promote better health humans will have an untapped reservoir of longevity. He suggests that humans will easily live to 125 years. He also conjectures that as more people live longer, society will have to confront the issue of what shall we do with an older active and vibrant demographic.

Dr. Valentin Fuster is the former Presidents of the World Heart Federation and The American Heart Association. Dr. Fuster also serves Director of both The Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute and The Marie-Josée and Henry R. Kravis Center for Cardiovascular Health at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
